Choosing the right photographer for your family is a big decision and we know you’ve got questions! To make things easier, we’ve put together a list of FAQs so you know exactly what to expect when booking a session with Tara Joseph Photography, serving families in Naperville, Plainfield, and Joliet.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What types of photography sessions do you offer?
I specialize in family photography, maternity photography, newborn portraits, milestone sessions, and family lifestyle shoots. Whether you’re looking for cozy in-home newborn photos, golden-hour family portraits, or milestone images of your little one, I’ve got you covered.
2. Where do sessions take place?
Most sessions are held in and around Naperville, Plainfield, and Joliet. I love working in local parks, charming downtown areas, and natural outdoor spaces that make beautiful backdrops. I’ll also guide you toward locations that match the style you’re going for, whether that’s urban, rustic, or classic natural light.
3. Do you offer studio sessions?
While I focus primarily on lifestyle and outdoor photography, I do offer studio-style setups when requested. These are perfect for newborn photography or families who want a clean, timeless look. The Studio is located in downtown Downers Grove.
4. What should we wear for our session?
Great question and probably the most common one I get! I’ll send you a style guide with tips and inspiration for coordinating outfits. Think soft, neutral tones and comfortable fits that let your family’s personality shine. If you’d like extra guidance, I’m always happy to help with final outfit choices.
5. How long do sessions last?
Family Sessions: 30-60 minutes
Newborn Sessions: Up to 2 hours to allow for feeding, snuggles, and breaks
6. How far in advance should I book?
For fall and holiday family sessions, it’s best to book at least 2–3 months in advance, availability is released November 1st of the prior year. Newborn sessions should be scheduled while you’re still pregnant so we can reserve a spot around your due date. Other sessions typically book 4–6 weeks ahead, but weekends fill quickly!
7. What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate?
I keep a close eye on the forecast and will reach out if it looks questionable. We’ll either reschedule to another available date or, in some cases, adjust the time to dodge rain or high winds.
8. Do you edit all the photos?
Yes! Every image in your gallery will be hand-edited in our signature style, clean, natural, and timeless. I don’t deliver unedited/raw images since the editing is part of my artistry.
9. How many photos will we receive?
Mini Sessions: 10 images to download out of at least 20
Full Sessions: 30 up to ALL images, depends on the session you choose
Newborn Sessions: 30 to ALL images, depends on the session you choose
Every gallery is delivered through a beautiful online gallery where you can download, share, and order prints.
10. Do you travel outside of Naperville, Plainfield, and Joliet?
Yes! I’m happy to travel to surrounding areas like Aurora, Bolingbrook, Oswego, and Romeoville. Some locations outside my main service area may include a small travel fee, which I’ll let you know upfront.
11. How do we book a session?
Booking is super easy! Simply fill out the contact form on my website, and I’ll send you session details along with a proposal to reserve your spot. A signed agreement and retainer secure your date on my calendar.
12. When will we receive our photos?
Gallery delivery is typically 2–3 weeks after your session. For holiday minis, I aim for a faster turnaround so you can use your images for cards and gifts.
13. Do you offer prints and products?
Yes! Your gallery includes a built-in store where you can order professional-quality prints, canvases, and albums. I always recommend ordering through your gallery to ensure the best quality for your keepsakes.
14. What if my kids don’t cooperate?
Don’t worry, this is totally normal! My sessions are relaxed and fun, with plenty of time for breaks, play, and candid moments. Some of the best photos come when kids are just being themselves.
